Ubisoft is expanding its presence in the Web3 space by partnering with Arbitrum Foundation and Sequence, an all-in-one Web3 game development platform, to launch the non-fungible token (NFT) game “Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.”
In this new game, described as a “transmedia adventure,” players will have a direct impact on the storyline through Web3 governance mechanisms.
Within it, players can increase their influence by overcoming challenges across multiple channels — both within and outside of Ubisoft’s ecosystem. The community will work together to steer the story, creating and sharing content to unlock key decision-making moments.
“Blockchain features on Arbitrum empower us to give the community a real voice in shaping the story, gameplay, and even side experiences. This fosters transparency and shared creation, paving the way for a truly collaborative future for Captain Laserhawk,” said Nicolas Pouard, VP of Ubisoft Labs.
The new game expands the universe of “Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix,” a series produced by Ubisoft for Netflix.
This development follows Ubisoft’s earlier efforts in the Web3 space. In 2022, the company introduced Ubisoft Quartz, a platform where players could acquire Digits — the first playable NFTs in an AAA game. Although Ubisoft Quartz was eventually shut down, the company has continued its Web3 journey with other releases and partnerships.
In November, Ubisoft launched free Ethereum-based PFP NFTs for its Champions Tactics game, which sold out in under 10 minutes. In the same month, Ubisoft and Animoca Brands announced a collaboration to advance Mocaverse’s Web3 gaming initiatives, integrating Ubisoft’s upcoming game Champions Tactics Grimoria Chronicles.
Just last month, Ubisoft teamed up with Double jump.tokyo to further integrate Web3 technology within its gaming projects, continuing its commitment to blockchain gaming despite the downturn in the NFT market.
