KEY POINTS
Despite a downturn in the non-fungible token (NFT) market, Ubisoft remains committed to exploring the space. The company recently partnered with Double jump.tokyo, a Web3 gaming company based in Japan, to continue its efforts in integrating blockchain technology into its gaming projects.
According to a press release, Double jump.tokyo will assist Ubisoft with Web3 integration and has become a key marketing partner for Ubisoft’s flagship blockchain game, Champions Tactics, in Asia.
The first result of this collaboration will be the integration of Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicle — a new PVP Tactical RPG in development — with the Oasys Layer 2 HOME Verse blockchain, which is developed and operated by Double jump.tokyo.
This partnership is one of several recent Web3 initiatives by Ubisoft.
In March, the company partnered with Cross The Ages, an NFT card game, to release a Watch Dogs-themed card collection.
Additionally, in November, Ubisoft worked with Animoca Brands to support Mocaverse’s Web3 gaming initiatives by integrating Ubisoft’s Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles.
In late 2022, Ubisoft made other several moves to bolster its presence in the NFT market. In November, it announced the release of free Ethereum-based PFP NFTs for the Champions Tactics game. The following month, Ubisoft’s “The Warlords” NFT collection — also tied to the Champions Tactics game — sold out in under 10 minutes.
These efforts come after Ubisoft’s earlier attempt in 2022 with Ubisoft Quartz, a platform where players could acquire Digits — the first playable NFTs in an AAA game. Although Ubisoft Quartz was eventually shut down, these recent partnerships and initiatives indicate a strategic push by the company to remain at the forefront of Web3 gaming.
