Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from the Pudgy Penguins collection are slated to become part of a Web3 trading card game set for release later this year.
The game — developed by Orange Cap Games and incubated by Spencer Ventures — will incorporate trading cards. To populate these cards with artwork, the company intends to license 200 Pudgy Penguins from the community.
Holdings of Pudgy Penguins NFTs can be submitted for consideration to be included in the game. The selection process will be overseen by the art team.
As of the latest update, 192 NFTs have already been submitted for review.
Selected penguins will be featured in various art categories, such as group poses, fishing rod scenes, or individual cards tailored to their unique attributes. Additionally, the final artwork may be showcased in Enter the Huddle promotions.
In addition to digital cards, there will also be physical cards, including special edition printings for owners.
According to the submission page hosted by OverpassIP — an IP licensing marketplace — the Orange Cap Games team will continue to select Pudgys throughout Q2 of 2024.
This move represents another step for the collection in expanding its intellectual property beyond the realm of NFTs. In September 2023, Pudgy Penguin toys hit shelves in 2,000 Walmart stores, offering physical toys with digital perks. In February 2024, they became available in an additional 1,100 Walmart stores.
In December 2023, Pudgy Penguins entered the metaverse with the announcement of “Pudgy World.”
More recently, Pudgy Penguins teamed up with Unstoppable Domains to introduce the first-ever NFT-focused Web3 domain, providing users with unique digital identities and fostering community engagement through themed badges.
