Japanese automotive giant Nissan has ventured into the metaverse once again, this time with an educational focus.
The company has introduced the “Heritage Cars & Safe Drive Studio,” a metaverse platform designed to educate users on traffic safety.
This initiative aims not only to impart crucial lessons but also allows visitors to explore and interact with three iconic heritage car models from Nissan’s past — Silvia Q’s (S13), Skyline 2000GTX-E, and Datsun Fairlady SPL213.
The virtual studio engages users through mini-games and activities that provide hands-on experience in traffic safety. Exercises include a mini-game focusing on the field of view and multitasking, along with a hands-on steering wheel spin exercise.
The initiative is a collaborative effort involving leading universities and the Traffic Safety Future Creation Lab, a specialized lab focusing on modeling, analyzing, and evaluating safety and mobility aspects across various road transport scenarios.
Launched today, March 7, Nissan’s Heritage Cars & Safe Drive Studio is already accessible on VRChat.
This educational endeavor in the metaverse marks an addition to Nissan’s initiatives in the Web3 space.
In 2022, Nissan commissioned five artists to draw their personal interpretations of the ARIYA model, showcasing them in the metaverse. Simultaneously, in collaboration with Grease Monkey Games, Nissan introduced its first non-fungible token (NFT) car for use in the Polygon-based race game Torque Drift 2 Motorsport.
Continuing its virtual presence in 2023, Nissan made its Hyper Punk concept car, initially revealed at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, virtually accessible within the Fortnite metaverse. This dedicated space, named “Electrify the World,” allowed users to explore and engage with Nissan’s futuristic car concept.
