Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer Nissan has teamed with Grease Monkey Games, an Australia-based multi-platform video game company and subsidiary of Animoca Brands, to launch its first non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
The NFTs will be used in Grease Monkey Games’ Torque Drift 2 Motorsport, an upcoming Polygon blockchain-enabled motorsport game that will include features such as collecting and earning NFTs parts, cars, decals, and items to build a customized car, participating in tournaments, competing with other players, and creating a crew.
Nissan’s participation will entail the development and release of 15 unique Nissan models over the following 12 months, with the initial models featuring 5 variants of the 180SX model, including the cult-favorite Sil80, and 7 variants of the 370Z model, including the 50th Anniversary edition.
Nissan and Grease Monkey Games have formed a long-term partnership that will allow Nissan to strengthen its efforts in the Web3 space. This is not, in reality, the company’s first foray into the digital world. In July, Nissan commissioned five artists to create personal representations of the new all-electric ARIYA and debuted a metaverse experience.
