Moonbirds, a blue-chip non-fungible token (NFT) project, has joined forces with Drew Schenck, the founder of the spirits brand Coladka, to make a foray into the spirits industry by introducing a unique gin bottle.
The collaboration has given rise to “Moonbird Gin,” a London dry-style gin based on the oldest known recipe for recreational gin dating back to 1495.
The transparent bottle features a label depicting the Moonbirds NFT character flying over a botanical landscape, mirroring the ten individually distilled botanicals present in the gin.
The Moonbird Gin bottles are already available for pre-sale at $32.99 each through the Spirit of the DAO shop, a decentralized autonomous organization focusing on spirits. Shipping is scheduled to start in January 2024.
While this marks Moonbirds’ debut in the spirits industry, the sector has witnessed previous forays. Notable brands such as Ardbeg Fon Fhòid, Monkey Shoulder, Patrón Tequila, and Glenfiddich have already embraced Web3 technologies by offering NFT versions tied to physical bottles as special editions.
NFTs linked to bottles address significant challenges faced by the beverage industry, particularly in ensuring authenticity and provenance. By showcasing data of the original issuer and information related to the physical bottle, NFTs serve as a solution to these challenges.
Despite a less-than-booming year for NFTs, a report by Research and Markets anticipates that the global food and beverage NFT market size will surpass $2 billion by 2032, prompting brands to venture into this burgeoning market.
