The popular Japanese football manga series Captain Tsubasa is expanding its digital footprint by integrating its NFT game with the Oasys blockchain — releasing a special Oasys Edition.
The game, titled “Captain Tsubasa Rivals,” allows players to collect NFT trading cards featuring characters from the series. Players can compete in two modes: battling rivals in the original story (PvE game) or competing against other users (PvP game).
Launched in 2022, the game was developed by Blocksmith&Co and Mint Town. It has received investments from companies like Animoca Brands and Yield Guild.
Initially built on the Polygon blockchain, the game is now expanding to the Oasys blockchain with the new edition.
With the Oasys version, players can buy Genesis NFTs and earn a free Tsubasa Ozora player NFT, who is the main character of the series. The sale for the Genesis NFT collection began on May 18, with 1,300 units remaining out of the initial 5,000.
This venture is part of a broader trend of Japanese manga and anime series entering the NFT space. Recently, Animoca Brands Japan announced “Fairy Tail” NFT cards, featuring 29 characters from the well-known manga series. In November 2023, Animoca Brands Japan introduced an NFT collection featuring “Liar Liar” anime characters as exclusive eFigurines.
Blockchain technology has significantly impacted the gaming industry by introducing decentralized ownership, secure in-game transactions, and fair gameplay. It enables players to own and trade in-game assets, enhances security against fraud, and provides transparent verification of game mechanics, contributing to a more immersive and equitable gaming experience.
The NFT gaming market is growing rapidly. According to Mordor Intelligence, the market size is estimated to be $471.9 billion in 2024, with projections reaching $942.58 billion by 2029.
