Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has joined forces with JCDecaux Transport Hong Kong to introduce the groundbreaking Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) Metaverse, marking the airport’s entry into the virtual world.
The newly launched virtual space, known as the “HKIA Metaverse,” offers an immersive experience for both international visitors and local travelers. Users will have the opportunity to explore three distinct virtual scenes: the Departure Hall, the Sky Bridge, and the boarding gate area, where they can uncover game instructions and embark on digital adventures.
One of the highlights of the HKIA Metaverse is a treasure-hunting game that challenges visitors to discover hidden prizes. Participants will also have a chance to win the highly coveted limited-edition HKIA Metaverse NFT, specially created to commemorate the airport’s 25th-anniversary celebration.
Powered by Voxels, an Ethereum blockchain-based virtual environment, the HKIA Metaverse can be accessed through a dedicated website until August 31, 2023.
HKIA is not the first airport to venture into the metaverse to enhance the travel experience. In April, Changi Airport Group partnered with Accenture to create “ChangiVerse,” an immersive metaverse experience.
Likewise, in December 2022, Bangalore International Airport introduced ‘BLR Metaport,’ a virtual space that enables users to take virtual tours of Terminal 2. Dubai Airport Freezone (DAFZ) also joined the metaverse trend in October 2022 with the launch of METADAFZ.
