Football clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona have filed a joint trademark application to enter the metaverse.
According to the trademark application, submitted to the USPTO on August 5, the football clubs aim to offer:
- Virtual reality software;
- Software for managing cryptocurrency transactions using blockchain technology;
- Virtual clothing, footwear, and headwear; sportswear;
The news was shared earlier today via Twitter by trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis.

This is not the first step that the two teams have taken toward Web3. Recently, FC Barcelona sold an NFT to commemorate Johan Cruyff‘s “impossible goal” against Atletico Madrid in 1973 for $693,000.
