Three days after announcing its new collection in collaboration with artist Nina Chanel Abney, CryptoPunks has shared more details about the project.
In a video post on X (formerly Twitter) published yesterday, CryptoPunks revealed the 500-piece collection crafted by Abney. The collection, titled “Super Punk World,” draws inspiration from CryptoPunks NFT characters and Abney’s “Super Cool World” NFT collection.
The collection features hybridized 3D sculptures that “blur the lines of race and gender and reflect upon virtual versus real-world identities.” Each trait was hand-cut by Abney and digitized to create 195 unique 3D sculpted attributes based on 25 personas.
These characters will be available as NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. Buyers of the NFTs will have access to high-resolution (4K) artwork, as well as a 3D model of the character that can be used in future digital worlds.
The NFTs will be sold through a Dutch auction, where the auctioneer starts with a high price that is incrementally lowered until someone places a bid. The auction begins on Wednesday, May 29 at 8 am PST. The artworks will be distributed randomly.
After the purchase, holders will be able to sell, and collectors will be able to buy Super Punk World NFTs on Magic Eden.
This collection is the first release under the “Punk in Residence” program, which was unveiled in February. This ongoing series of collaborations invites artists to create limited-edition works exploring the question, “What does punk mean to you?”
Since its introduction in 2017, CryptoPunks has been one of the most popular NFT projects, achieving multimillion-dollar sales. The largest sale occurred in February 2022, when CryptoPunk #5822 sold for 8,000 ETH, worth over $23.7 million at the time.
Significant sales have continued this year. In March, two NFTs — Alien Punks #7804 and #3100 — each sold for over $16 million. Last month, another Alien Punk, #635, sold for over $12 million.
Last week, the CryptoPunks NFT collection recorded notable sales, driving daily volumes to nearly $1.4 million, marking a 63% increase compared to the previous week.
