CryptoPunks has released a new documentary titled “What the Punk,” which details the story of the non-fungible token (NFT) project.
The 80-minute documentary, directed by Hervé Martin-Delpierre, officially premiered on June 11. It was created in collaboration with the European public service channel ARTE and the NFT collector TokenAngels.
“What the Punk” explores the journey of CryptoPunks from its inception in 2017 to its rise as a significant movement in the NFT space. The documentary features insights from CryptoPunks creators Matt Hall and John Watkinson, as well as the personal experiences of Robness, an artist deeply involved in the cryptocurrency and crypto art scenes.
The documentary is available for purchase on Darjeeling Prod for $9.99, or it can be rented for three days at $5.99.
This release follows closely on the heels of another significant CryptoPunks publication. In April, the project released “Free to Claim,” a detailed book chronicling its history and journey in the NFT space. The book includes contributions from the founders and highlights the iconic CryptoPunks collection. It is available in two versions, with a limited number of signed copies.
CryptoPunks has consistently ranked among the most popular and best-selling NFT collections since its launch. In 2022, the collection was acquired by Yuga Labs, the creator of another notable NFT collection, Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC).
Despite recent downturns in the NFT market, CryptoPunks has continued to achieve high-value sales. In March, two of its Alien Punks — #3100 and #7804 — sold for over $16 million each. In April, another CryptoPunk, #635, sold for more than $12 million. Last month, the collection recorded daily sales of $1.4 million, and another NFT, #741, sold for almost $800,000.
According to CoinMarketCap data, CryptoPunks ranks second among the top NFT collections by sales volume. The collection has an all-time sales volume of 1.2 million ETH, approximately $4.3 billion, and an all-time floor price of 27.41 ETH, or over $97,000.
