CryptoPunks, the popular non-fungible token (NFT) collection, has unveiled “Free to Claim” — a book chronicling the project’s complete journey since its inception.
The 800-page book provides an in-depth exploration of CryptoPunks, featuring a dictionary section containing terms, neologisms, abbreviations, and jargon written by Punks and notable figures in the Web3 community.
Additionally, it includes a Catalogue Raisonné featuring all 10,000 CryptoPunks NFTs, complete with Punk image, number, type, color palette, attributes, and image hash. The book also showcases a timeline of community posts, tweets, and interviews, including one with the founders.
The book is offered in two versions. One version features custom edge printing exclusively reserved for Cryptopunks holders, while the other is available to the public.
A total of 240 editions of both versions — amounting to 480 in total — have been personally signed by CryptoPunks creators Matt Hall and John Watkinson and will be distributed randomly.
Despite its name, “Free to Claim,” inspired by earlier days, the book is priced at $100, with the option to pay in cryptocurrency. Pre-orders will be accepted until May 15, with publication and delivery scheduled to start this fall.
Since its launch in 2017, CryptoPunks, known for its iconic 24×24 pixel, 8-bit-style portraits, has emerged as one of the most successful projects in the Web3 sphere. Notably, some of the largest sales in the NFT space have been attributed to this collection.
Just last month, a CryptoPunks NFT, #3100, fetched approximately $16.2 million. Following closely, two weeks later, CryptoPunk #7804 sold for 4,850 ETH ($16.4 million), marking the second-largest sale in the collection’s history.
While the highest sale occurred in 2022, with CryptoPunk #5822 fetching $23.7 million, these recent transactions underscore the enduring value of the collection and sustained community interest, despite market downturns.
According to data from CoinMarketCap, CryptoPunks ranks third among Ethereum-based NFT collections by all-time sales volume. Furthermore, CryptoSlam data reveals that its NFTs occupy the top seven positions in the list of highest NFT collectible sales.
