Takeda, Asia’s largest pharmaceutical company and one of the top 20 globally in terms of revenue, has taken steps to enter the metaverse and non-fungible token (NFT) space by filing two trademarks.
On June 9, 2023, Takeda submitted the trademarks to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), outlining its plans to provide virtual goods such as pharmaceutical preparations, medical devices, healthcare, and medical services for virtual environments.
The trademarks also indicate Takeda’s intention to offer NFTs and online retail store services featuring virtual or mixed reality software, allowing customers to purchase and store virtual goods related to pharmaceuticals.
Trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis shared the news of the filings on Twitter earlier today. Kondoudis specializes in Web3-related filings and has brought attention to Takeda’s move.
Takeda joins a growing list of pharmaceutical companies expressing interest in the Web3 world. In March 2022, CVS Pharmacy filed four trademark applications for CVS, CVS PHARMACY, CVS HEALTH, and the CVS heart logo, signaling its intention to enter the metaverse.
Additionally, in March 2022, iMining Technologies announced its subsidiary, Metaverse Advisory Group (MAG), had partnered with Noman Qureshi to assist the Pharmacy Group in developing metaverse-related strategies. In May 2022, Metabloxz teamed up with Kronans Apotek, one of Sweden’s leading pharmaceutical chains, to create its first metaverse pharmacy.
