Appleton Estate, the renowned Jamaican rum brand, is making a foray into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Teaming up with Blockbar, a specialized NFT marketplace for wines and spirits, Appleton Estate will soon release its prized Appleton Estate 17 Year Old Legend as an NFT — the first time such a prestigious rum will be offered in this format.
Limited to just 1,500 bottles worldwide, only 36 of these iconic rum bottles will be transformed into NFTs, thanks also to a collaboration with the artist Oneika Russell. The NFT artwork draws inspiration from vibrant tropical patterns and incorporates archival prints and photographs that capture the essence of Jamaica’s island life.
Each NFT will be intricately linked to a physical bottle, and in order to claim the tangible counterpart, NFT holders will need to “burn” their digital asset. The NFTs will be priced at 0.27 ETH (equivalent to approximately $500) and will go on sale exclusively on Blockbar, starting today at 4:00 PM CET.
Blockbar has a track record of featuring exclusive spirits on its marketplace. In September 2022, the platform auctioned an NFT linked to a bottle of 1800 Colección Tequila and the rare decanter called “El Rey del Tequila,” crafted by the renowned artist Leonora Carrington. Additionally, in May 2022, Monkey Shoulder, the exceptional blended malt whiskey from William Grant, was released as an NFT on the platform.
Blockbar has established partnerships with various other notable brands, including Patrón Tequila, Glenfiddich, and Ardbeg Fon Fhòid, further solidifying its reputation as a platform that brings together the worlds of collectibles and premium spirits.
