nWay, a game developer and subsidiary of Animoca Brands, has announced the release of Mascot non-fungible token (NFT) digital pins ahead of the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11.
The NFTs feature this year’s Olympic Games mascot, “Olympic Phryge,” a cartoonish, red-colored character based on traditional small Phrygian hats after which the mascots are shaped.
There are two designs for the NFTs: one simple and another depicting the mascot holding and waving a flag. Each design is available in two levels of rarity: Legendary and Epic.
These Mascot pins are non-transferable and are already available for free claim through the Magic Eden marketplace. They will be available until August 12. As of now, over 5,800 NFTs have already been claimed.
Additionally, NFT pins can be claimed through the My Olympic Rewards program, where earned points can be redeemed for an Epic pin of the Paris 2024 mascot holding a flag with the Paris 2024 emblem.
The release is part of Coinbase’s Onchain Summer event, which is Base’s second edition of a month-long global online hackathon. This event invites builders, creators, brands, and artists to collaborate and create on the Base blockchain.
Jesse Pollak, the creator of Base, commented on the initiative, stating, “By bringing these NFTs to the community, we aim to create a memorable and unforgettable experience for people around the world.”
This is not the first instance of a mascot being turned into an NFT and made available to the public. Last year, Michelin introduced its first NFT collection, “Michelin 3xplorer Club,” which featured 5,000 Michelin Man NFTs and offered exclusive perks and experiences for holders.
