Yves Saint Laurent has unveiled a two-part non-fungible token (NFT) initiative called “Black Opium: The Night Is Ours”.
The project is closely related to one of YSL’s best-selling fragrances — Black Opium — and will kick off with its first chapter, “The Night Blocks.”
The first phase of the campaign will see shoppers in the UK, US, France, and Australia purchase Black Opium on the YSL Beauty website and be among the lucky few to claim one of the 2014 unique YSL Beauty Night Blocks.
After purchasing the perfume, customers will get an email with a link to download the YSL Beauty Wallet and claim their NFT.
NFTs will be available in two variants: the original, “YSL Beauty Night Block,” and the rare edition. In the latter’s case, YSL is inviting the community to vote on its name and theme via social media polls, with three options available — Thrill Hunter, Nocturnal Dancer, and Crew Caller. There will only be 14 of the rare edition NFTs available.
NFT holders will enjoy several benefits: access to the next NFT drop “The Night Masters;” a coupon code for the next purchase on the YSL Beauty website; and unique behind-the-scenes content with Black Opium master perfumer.
The campaign will run from January 30th through June 30th, 2023, or when consumers will claim all 2014 NFTs.
“The Night Masters,” the second chapter of the NFT program, will feature a group of female crypto artists providing their own interpretation of the “exhilaration after dark.” There will be 300 NFTs available, with funds benefiting the Abuse Is Not Love project, which aims to prevent intimate partner violence.
This effort comes after YSL submitted trademark applications last week, suggesting its intention to enter the metaverse and NFT space.
