Earlier this month, YouTube CPO Neal Mohan revealed YouTube’s interest in crypto and NFTs. Yesterday, he noted again the interest in NFTs in a blog post outlining the company’s plans for the rest of the year.
The article, titled “A Look at 2022: Community, Collaboration, and Commerce” discusses new tools, products, and features that Youtube will offer users, creators, and partners during the current year.
In addition to news about channel guidelines for creators, so they can better shape the tone of conversations on their channel, and how viewers can sort comments timed to the exact moment they are watching a video, the article also mentions web3 and NFTs.
The blog post points out that NFTs can help YouTube creators deepen their relationships with their subscribers and fans. They will be able to collaborate in new ways, like by providing a verifiable way for fans to own unique videos, photos, art, and even experiences by their favorite creators.
“There’s a lot to consider in making sure we approach these new technologies responsibly, but we think there’s incredible potential as well,” Neal Mohan wrote. “Today, the world of video innovation at YouTube is moving so quickly that it feels like we’re at the beginning […] And with so much to come in 2022, here’s to another exciting beginning.”
