Roblox has announced a new partnership with e-commerce giant Shopify to enable users to buy and sell items directly within the metaverse.
This collaboration makes Shopify Roblox’s first commerce integration partner, allowing Shopify’s Checkout system to be embedded into Roblox. As a result, developers, creators, and brands on Shopify can now sell physical items directly within Roblox games without users needing to leave the platform.
This integration, set to launch in early 2025, will allow users to discover and purchase physical items such as clothing and accessories from creators within Roblox.
This move provides brands with the opportunity to engage with Roblox’s vast user base, which reached nearly 80 million daily active users in Q2 2024.
Several major brands like Walmart, IKEA, and Adidas have already ventured into the metaverse, and the Shopify integration will further support their marketing and selling strategies. By bringing commerce directly into Roblox, these brands will be able to connect more effectively with the Gen Z audience, offering a more immersive shopping experience.
In addition to this, Roblox is planning to introduce a feature that will allow developers to set prices for paid access experiences on desktops in real currency rather than Robux, Roblox’s in-game currency.
The partnership with Shopify represents another significant step for Roblox in expanding and improving its platform. Earlier this year, in March, Roblox launched new AI-powered tools, “Avatar Auto Setup” and “Texture Generator,” designed to simplify content creation within the metaverse. “Avatar Auto Setup” helps transform 3D body meshes into animated avatars, while “Texture Generator” enables quick modifications to object appearances with textures.
Roblox’s growth trajectory has been strong, as demonstrated by its Q4 2023 results. The company reported record-breaking revenues of $749.9 million and bookings exceeding $1 billion, reflecting its continued success despite challenges in the digital landscape.
