Furniture giant IKEA is currently in the process of hiring personnel for its upcoming metaverse store.
Dubbed “The Co-Worker Game” and hosted on the Roblox platform, the virtual store has been developed in collaboration with The Gang, a game development studio. It mirrors the layout of a typical IKEA store, complete with various departments.
The company aims to hire ten employees to manage different sections of the virtual store, such as the Showroom and Bistro. Their responsibilities will include assisting customers in selecting furniture and serving meals and informing them about the opportunity to win exclusive UGCs.
The positions are fully remote, with an hourly wage starting at $14 and offered on a limited contract basis. Only individuals residing in the UK or ROI are eligible to apply, with the deadline for applications set for June 16.
In addition to traditional application queries, candidates are asked unconventional questions like “How do you feel about being turned into pixels?” and “What would you do if we ran out of pixelated hot dogs in our bistro?”
The virtual store is scheduled to launch on June 24.
“We’re excited to be the first brand to launch paid work on Roblox to showcase how we do careers differently, bringing our unique careers philosophy to life,” stated Darren Taylor, IKEA UK and Ireland’s Country People and Culture Manager.
This initiative isn’t IKEA’s first foray into the Web3 space. In 2022, the company’s innovation and research laboratory, SPACE10, introduced a new concept focused on furniture circularity. By using non-fungible tokens (NFTs), customers could monitor the lifespan of their furniture and recycle them when necessary.
