Dating.com, a subsidiary of the Dating Group, the parent company of over 40 online dating sites, today revealed insights on dating trends for 2023.
According to the findings, technology will play an increasingly important role in dating; in particular, the metaverse appears to be an intriguing destination for singles, with 33% wanting to date virtually.
Before meeting in person, a date in a virtual avatar vest would allow individuals to get to know their possible partners better and assess whether they are the right person before meeting in the real world.
Plus, the metaverse would be able to eliminate distances and allow singles from various cities, nations or continents to connect in the virtual world, supported by one-third of respondents open to relationships with people who are not local.
As more individuals grow familiar with dating in the metaverse, it might soon turn into a key place that would also encourage shy people in taking the first step or being more confident in meeting someone.
The development of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) devices and technology has the potential to enhance further online dating by allowing users to act and represent themselves exactly as they would in real life.
It will also benefit from avatar personalization and metaverse fashion since people will be able to build their identities, express themselves, and reveal their personalities to the virtual world.
