South Korean company LG UPlus has partnered with Yonsei University, a renowned private research institution in the country, to establish a virtual campus.
Built on LG’s metaverse platform, Uverse, the virtual campus aims to provide seamless integration of digital functionalities related to real-life matters.
The virtual space will facilitate interactions between students and professors, allowing for chats and updates on class status, announcements, and schedules.
The metaverse campus will also offer supplementary features, including the sale of university products, avatar customization, and a personalized space known as “My Room” for each user.
The virtual space will be able to host up to 1,000 users at the same time, making it possible to organize events within the Metaverse auditorium and open-air theater.
Ease of access to the virtual campus will be ensured through a direct link with Yonsei Portal, the university’s academic management site, streamlining the login process for students and staff.
This is not the first time LG UPlus has ventured into the virtual realm with an academic institution. Back in 2022, the company collaborated with Cheongju University to establish a “Meta-Life,” a virtual campus catering to the needs of students.
Web3 adoption has already found its way into several Asian universities. For instance, in July 2022, Nanjing University made a significant move by rebranding its Department of Information Engineering as the Department of Metaverse Engineering.
Around the same time, Todai University in Tokyo also made headlines by introducing courses focused on the metaverse. These courses are designed to equip students with essential knowledge in fields like artificial intelligence, next-generation communication technologies, and beyond.
