According to a local report, Nanjing University, a national public research university in Nanjing, China, has renamed its Department of Information Engineering to the Department of Metaverse Engineering.
Even though the department’s particular goals have not yet been revealed, it is most likely targeted at developing a new highland for metaverse teaching, research, production and education integration, academic exchanges, high-level talent training, and international collaboration.
This step appears to have been made in reaction to the establishment of the Shangai-based Metaverse and Virtual Reality Interaction Joint Research Institute, which purpose is to advance VR interaction.
As the metaverse swiftly establishes itself as the technology of the future, possibly revolutionizing the way we’ll live our daily lives, cities, organizations, and companies are vying for a presence and a market share.
In July, Tokyo’s Todai University announced the introduction of metaverse courses to train students in fields such as artificial intelligence, next-generation communication technologies, and more. In the past, Sungkyunkwan University announced in February the distribution of NFT-based award certificates to deserving graduates in appreciation of excellent achievements.
