Monotype, the digital typesetting and typeface design company, has collaborated with creative Web3 studio KnownUnknown to launch “Helvetica The NFT,” an NFT collection that catapults the famous typeface into the Web3 frontier.
Two dozen international artists designed the collection, and each design tells a distinct story while being linked together by the world’s most well-known typeface. The typeface used in the artwork is Helvetica Now Variable, the most technologically optimized version of the typeface ever created.
The collaboration demonstrates the importance of typography in a digital-first society by fostering new forms of expression, commerce, and accessibility.
As a result of its low environmental impact, Monotype and KnownUnknown collaborated with the Avalanche blockchain to enable the collection.
Sales began on July 14. Type and art fans can buy the NFTs from the designers at three degrees of rarity, with prices ranging from $100 to $250 to $500 USD.
