Blockchain company ConsenSys is poised to release a new non-fungible token (NFT) collection to commemorate Ethereum’s Dencun upgrade, marking the third NFT drop following The Merge and Shanghai-Capella upgrades.
The Dencun upgrade encompasses nine Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) aimed at bolstering the network’s scalability and reducing gas fees.
Dubbed “Ethereum, Evolved: Dencun NFT collection,” this release introduces a new “Community” edition alongside the existing “Open” and “Contributor” editions.
For the creation of the Dencun NFT artwork, ConsenSys collaborated with German digital artist Stefan Große Halbuer, also known as Plastic Pen. Halbuer’s artwork encapsulates the Ethereum ecosystem, combining elements of nature and blockchain technology to depict futuristic landscapes. The artwork also features animated blobs symbolizing the scalability introduced by the Dencun upgrade.
Starting March 13, 2024, collectors will have a 72-hour window to claim the Open edition on Ethereum and the Community edition on Linea. The Open edition is accessible to all, while the Community edition is reserved for collectors with prior NFT holdings.
Established in 2018, ConsenSys garnered acclaim for creating MetaMask, one of the most widely used crypto wallets, and for its contributions to the Ethereum blockchain. In March 2022, ConsenSys secured $450M in Series D funding to further enhance the Ethereum protocol. In April 2023, the company achieved a significant milestone by finalizing the Shanghai/Capella upgrade, a pivotal step forward on Ethereum’s roadmap.
