Azuki has revealed a partnership with fashion brand Satoshi Nakamoto to launch a unique “phygital” hoodie linked to a dual-chain non-fungible token (NFT).
This NFT, realized in collaboration with the NFT marketplace Magic Eden, comes as a Physical Backed Token (PBT). The PBT is a new Ethereum token standard based on ERC721, designed to link a physical item to a digital token.
The NFT will exist simultaneously on both the Ethereum and Bitcoin blockchains. Each NFT will act as proof of ownership for one of the 97 physical hoodies produced.
Each hoodie will include a physical chip embedded within its sleeve, linked to the corresponding NFT. These hoodies will be exclusively available to Azuki’s Spirit holders. The Spirit NFT is the rarest and most expensive type of Azuki NFT, with only 97 in existence — matching the limited number of hoodies produced.
This collection pays tribute to Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous person who created Bitcoin. It also aims to explore and celebrate advancements in blockchain technology, merging digital and physical realms.
“It’s a new way for brands to tell stories to their audience. And it’s not just, you know, ‘hey, this is a physical product’, you wear it, you like it and that’s it. Now, it’s unlock a whole new world of digital experiences on top of the physical,” said Zagabond, Azuki Founder and CEO, in a video on X (Twitter).
This is not the first time Chiru Labs, the company behind Azuki, has ventured into the physical world. In January 2024, the company launched a physical collection inspired by Beanz NFTs in collaboration with IPX.
More recently, Azuki also launched the first episode of its anime series “Enter the Garden,” igniting $1 million in NFT sales for the collection within a mere 24 hours. This episode was later turned into an NFT and is currently available for purchase, along with a commemorative poster.
