Apple is set to debut its long-anticipated virtual reality (VR) headset, Vision Pro, this February, according to a press release issued today, January 8.
Priced at $3,499, the mixed-reality headset will be available for pre-order starting January 19 at 5 am PT, with the official release slated for February 2, 2024.
The Vision Pro aims to elevate user experiences across productivity, entertainment, and gaming realms. Users can access apps such as JigSpace, Microsoft 365, and Slack, stream content from Apple TV+, Disney+, Max, and more, and explore over 250 games on the App Store, including titles on Apple Arcade.
Facetime on Apple Vision Pro also introduces innovative features to video calls, using spatial technology to make participants appear life-size and incorporating Spatial Audio to immerse users in a lifelike auditory experience.
Apple unveiled Vision Pro in June 2023 during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, coinciding with Meta’s announcement of its latest VR headset, the Meta Quest 3.
The launch of Apple Vision Pro comes amid a challenging period for the VR headset market. Recent reports indicate a nearly 40% decline in sales in the United States during 2023, falling from $1.1 billion in 2022 to $664 million, challenging even Meta’s metaverse ambitions.
Despite the current downturn, the metaverse’s potential remains high, with projections forecasting a positive trajectory. The global metaverse market is expected to witness significant growth, reaching $3,409.29 billion by 2027.
