Renault has unveiled its first-ever non-fungible token (NFT) collection.
The “genR5” collection was inspired by the Renault 5, an automobile that became a 1970s icon.
It will include 1,972 NFTs, with the number referring to the year the Renault 5 initially hit the market.
Each NFT showcases one of the four Renault 5 models – electric, Turbo, Le Car Van, and TL – in a 9-second video that includes an exclusive covering and sound animation.
The mint will begin today, December 15, at R3NLT, Renault’s first Web3 platform, where it will host all of its NFT drops and Web3-related activities.
Buyers will receive an NFT at random, as well as access to specific utilities. They will also be invited to co-create The Originals merchandise, which will then be available in an exclusive limited edition, and will automatically become Give Me Five project sponsors, as 50% of NFT proceeds will go toward outreach initiatives.
Although this is first Renault’s first NFT initiative, the automobile manufacturer has already embraced Web3 by developing its Industrial Metaverse focused on the management of mass data and the connectivity between supply chain ecosystems.
