Ready Player One, the 2018 film credited with popularizing the concept of the metaverse, made headlines earlier this year with the launch of Readyverse Studios. This new venture aims to create a multi-IP open metaverse, and has today introduced a sneak peek of its inaugural project, “Open.”
Open is set to be an AAA battle-royale metaverse gaming experience, incorporating top-tier intellectual properties and leveraging Web3 technology. The unveiling occurred through an X (Twitter) post on March 10, accompanied by a video trailer that offered a glimpse into the game’s ambiance.
The gaming experience is designed in a game-show style, offering players multi-round collaborative gameplay within “nostalgia-infused biomes.” These biomes will showcase characters and cultural legends from iconic franchises.
Players participating in Open will have the opportunity to collaborate with allies, strategize for advantages, and explore the benefits provided by Web3 gaming, such as asset interoperability, digital ownership, and decentralization.
The game boasts globally recognized intellectual properties, including partnerships with sports brand Reebok, mobility company DeLorean Motor Company, and the iconic Ready Player One biome. In this biome, fans can immerse themselves in competitive experiences inspired by the original novel and film, featuring branded environments and skins.
To bring this project to life, Readyverse Studios collaborated with Walker Labs, a team of game developers from industry giants like Epic, PlayStation, and EA.
While the game is still in the development phase, interested users can already register and join the waiting list for future updates.
Established in January, Readyverse Studios resulted from a collaboration between Ernest Cline, the visionary behind Ready Player One, producer Dan Farah, Warner Bros Discovery, and metaverse company Futureverse. The mission of the project is to offer a diverse range of interconnected digital experiences within a multi-IP interoperable open metaverse.
