DC Comics is marking Batman’s 85th anniversary with the launch of a new non-fungible token (NFT) collection.
In collaboration with Web3 company Candy Digital, the release, titled “The Legacy Cowls Collection,” pays homage to the iconic superhero’s legacy.
The collection, comprising 11,544 3D collectibles, stems from community input. Starting in June 2022, holders of DC Bat Cowl NFTs, a series of NFTs introduced last year, actively participated in shaping the direction of the new collection. Working alongside DC artists and writers, they collectively contributed to the creation of a new DC Super-Villain: The Legacy Cowl.
These NFTs will be minted on Palm, a novel NFT-optimized Ethereum L2 blockchain network. The release will occur in four separate sales throughout 2024, with the initial sale slated for March 29. Each NFT will be available through Candy Digital at a price of $49.99.
Beyond ownership of these NFTs, holders can enjoy various benefits, such as experiencing their collectibles in 3D within the metaverse through Meta platforms. Additionally, they gain voting rights to shape the exploration of The Legacy Cowls in Gotham City and access to a curated selection of experiences and future drops.
This initiative builds upon Batman’s previous forays into Web3-related endeavors. In November 2023, digital collectible platform VeVe introduced Gothic City Vol 1, an immersive Batman-themed experience slated for launch on its metaverse platform, VeVeVerse. Additionally, in 2022, AMC, the American movie theater chain, unveiled Batman NFTs to coincide with the release of “The Batman” movie.
