The Pokémon Company, the Japanese firm in charge of the Pokémon franchise’s brand management, production, and licensing, is hiring, and this time Web3 knowledge is one of the prerequisites.
In a recent job posting on its career webpage, the company indicated that it is recruiting a Corporate Development Principal, with considerable understanding and awareness of Web3 — including blockchain technology, NFT, and the metaverse.
Being deeply connected to a network of investors and entrepreneurs in Web3 and the metaverse is also required.
Although the Pokémon Company has not yet revealed specific plans to develop in connection to Web3, this job posting implies a strong interest in a market that has gained traction in recent years.
After all, Pokémon was one of the first implementations of augmented reality (AR) with Pokémon Go, a mobile game launched in 2016 that garnered 232 million active players during the launch year and produced an annual income of $1.21 billion in 2021.
Pokémon Go was not far from some of today’s Web3 applications, and the idea underlying it may soon grow into something more advanced — enhancing the virtual side — aided by new technology and devices like VR headsets.
