China Mobile, the largest wireless carrier in China, has made a significant move in the metaverse space by forming a strategic alliance with major players in the Chinese tech industry.
The announcement was made during the Mobile World Congress Shanghai (MWCS), where China Mobile introduced the “China Mobile Metaverse Industry Alliance” and unveiled its initial group of 24 alliance members. Notable members include Huawei, HKUST Xunfei, Xiaomi, and Mango TV.
The alliance encompasses various sectors, including industry, education, and research, aiming to foster interaction, resource sharing, and integrated development within the metaverse space.
The main objectives of the alliance include advancing metaverse development in China, promoting collaboration among member companies, and capitalizing on the new opportunities offered by the digital economy.
To support the growth of the metaverse industry, China Mobile also announced the establishment of a member alliance fund. This fund will provide support for metaverse projects, technologies, and enterprises, facilitating research projects, product incubation, content innovation, and more.
China Mobile has consistently been at the forefront of innovation and continues to show its leadership in the Web3 landscape. In fact, the company played a key role in developing GSXR, the first domestic unified standard for XR terminal interconnection and interoperability.
China has firmly positioned itself as a leader in adopting revolutionary technologies, with a keen focus on the rapid progress of Web3. In line with this progressive approach, the city of Nanjing introduced the inaugural government-led metaverse platform in May, further driving progress and advancements in the field.
Additionally, China made another noteworthy milestone on January 1, 2023, with the launch of its first regulated NFT marketplace.
