The estate of Notorious B.I.G., the iconic American rapper slain in 1997, has collaborated with Warner Music Group and The Sandbox metaverse platform to create a virtual tribute titled “Breakin’ B.I.G.”
The experience showcases a Brooklyn, New York-inspired area and pays homage to the iconic rapper. Visitors can engage with the rapper’s non-playable avatar and embark on various quests as they navigate the path of an aspiring rap star.
A highlight of the virtual experience is the release of the “Big Poppa collection,” comprising 1,500 avatar characters categorized into four tiers. Reflecting different facets of the rap genius — from Frank White to the Notorious B.I.G. — each avatar is uniquely crafted with traits randomly inspired by Biggie’s distinctive fashion and influential looks.
Acquiring one of these avatars grants users access to exclusive events, opportunities to earn $SAND, and participation in upcoming activations within The Sandbox metaverse.
This initiative marks the first commemoration of Notorious B.I.G. in the Web3 space. Despite his passing, the late rapper continues to be recognized as one of the greatest in the genre, boasting over 20.2 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
This collaboration contributes to The Sandbox’s strategy of forming high-profile partnerships, aiming to offer fans more immersive experiences and new ways to pay tribute to their idols.
In the past month, the platform joined forces with Shemaroo Entertainment to bring iconic Bollywood IPs to the metaverse, featuring virtual experiences like film launches, live concerts, and themed games. Similarly, in early November, The Sandbox collaborated with Banijay to introduce Black Mirror and Peaky Blinders to the metaverse, providing fans with immersive experiences.
