Shemaroo Entertainment, a prominent Indian content creator and distributor established in 1962, recently announced a strategic partnership with The Sandbox, signaling its entry into the metaverse.
Through this collaboration, Shemaroo intends to join BharatBox, a virtual cultural hub hosted in The Sandbox, featuring key partners from India’s entertainment, art, and sports sectors, including Bollywood — a term denoting Hindi cinema.
Shemaroo plans to introduce select Bollywood intellectual properties (IPs) like Jab We Met, The Great Gambler, Disco Dancer, Khuda Gawah, Blue, and 22 Yards to the metaverse, aiming to provide fans with a more immersive and engaging experience.
The virtual offerings will encompass a range of experiences, from film launches, award ceremonies, and live concerts to screenings, among others.
Within the virtual space, users can also expect themed gaming experiences inspired by the movies, such as Retro Night Club (Inspired by Disco Dancer), Cricket Game (From 22 Yards), Horse-riding (Rescue) Quest (Khuda Gawah themed), and more.
This move highlights The Sandbox’s ongoing efforts to integrate cinematic experiences and tap into the entertainment industry, further enriching its metaverse platform.
Just a week ago, The Sandbox unveiled Cinerama, a virtual realm where users can purchase virtual plots and build alongside entertainment giants. Additionally, earlier this month, The Sandbox collaborated with Banijay to bring two popular Netflix series — Black Mirror and Peaky Blinders — to the metaverse, offering immersive experiences for fans.
