Renowned Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami is once again pushing boundaries with his foray into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Murakami has announced the creation of a unique digital collectible, named “Flower Jet Coin NFT,” which will be gifted to attendees of his upcoming exhibition in France.
The exhibition, titled “Understanding the New Cognitive Domain,” is a collaboration between Murakami and the esteemed art gallery Gagosian. It will showcase the artist’s monumental paintings and will be held at the gallery in Le Bourget, France.
The Flower Jet Coin NFT derives its name from the jets that frequently fly into the active airport surrounding the gallery. The digital collectible features a pixelated coin adorned with a smiling flower face, capturing Murakami’s signature style.
To claim the free NFT, visitors must attend the exhibition’s opening reception. The NFT will be minted on demand for those who join the giveaway booth line between 3 and 6 pm on June 10, 2023.
Each visitor is eligible to claim a single Flower Jet Coin NFT using their email address alone or by using an email address with a self-custody wallet such as MetaMask, Rainbow, Coinbase Wallet, or WalletConnect.
This venture into the realm of NFTs is not Murakami’s first foray into the digital landscape. In March, he collaborated with RTFKT and Nike to unveil an exclusive Air Force 1 collection that seamlessly merged physical sneakers with NFTs. Some sneakers featured limited-edition designs by Murakami himself.
Prior to that, in February, the acclaimed artist partnered with Swiss luxury watchmaker Hublot to introduce a collection of 13 unique watches, each intricately linked to an accompanying NFT. The collaborative effort showcased Murakami’s artistic vision and innovation.
