MTV Video Music Awards, an awards ceremony honoring the best music videos of the year that will take place on Sunday, August 28, this year will also recognize the best music performances in virtual environments.
In the new category, dubbed “Best Metaverse Performance“, nominations are being made for performances such as Ariana Grande’s Rift Tour in Fortnite. Over the past several years, virtual concerts in online video games like Fortnite and Roblox have become increasingly popular with artists like Travis Scott, Lil Nas X, and others.
Among the artists nominated for the “Best Metaverse Performance” category are Ariana Grande, BLACKPINK, BTS, Charli XCX, Justin Bieber, and Twenty-One Pilots.

Since the pandemic’s onset, people have been exploring new ways to interact with one another and live their lives, giving rise to the metaverse. Even if the epidemic appears to be over, the metaverse does not belong in the past.
