Toy company Mattel has announced a new addition to its digital marketplace, as it continues to explore the intersection of traditional toys and the burgeoning world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
The latest release brings together the iconic characters from the planet-themed media franchise, Masters of the Universe, and Gary Vaynerchuk (aka GaryVee)’s NFT project, VeeFriends.
The upcoming release is set to feature two iconic characters: Skeletor, the supervillain and primary antagonist from the Masters of the Universe, and Skilled Skeleton, one of the exclusive 283 characters from the VeeFriends NFT collection.
The “2-Pack” release will include swappable pieces for the characters, with the added unique feature of one character glowing in the dark. The pack will be delivered in a custom box, complete with sliding slipcovers and a mini-comic.
Starting October 6 at 9 am PT, these limited-edition packs will be available for purchase exclusively through the Mattel Creations platform. Each pack will be priced at $45.
Mattel’s foray into the world of NFTs began in November 2022, with the integration of an NFT marketplace to its Mattel Creations platform. In April, the company announced an update to its Mattel Creations NFT platform, including a virtual collectible peer-to-peer marketplace.
GaryVee embarked on his NFT journey in 2021. His NFT collection boasts 268 hand-drawn characters, primarily featuring animal cartoon characters.
