Kyrgyzstan’s State National Security Committee has located a major mining farm in Druzhba village, Issyk-Ata region.
This is reported by Sputnik with reference to the department’s press service. Foreign citizens have organized a mining farm under the cover of a greenhouse and placed 2500 units of server equipment there.
The surge of miners took the blame for the electricity shortages and certain states moved to alleviate a growing energy shortage. At the beginning of October, reports surfaced that the Kyrgyz government had boosted the electricity tariff for crypto mining companies, as well as other energy consumers, blaming the energy-intensive nature of their operations.
Authorities in Bishkek have also been pursuing underground cryptocurrency miners. Last May, 2,000 mining devices were reportedly seized by law enforcement officers from various outlawed crypto mining facilities in different locations in the Bishkek capital city and the Chuy region.
Also in Kyrgyzstan, foreign citizens have organized a mining farm under the cover of a greenhouse and placed 2500 units of server equipment there. According to committee officials, the illegal activities of the farm “caused colossal damage to Kyrgyzstan’s electricity networks.”
Law enforcement agencies are searching for those involved in the mining farm’s work and calculating the amount of damage. In addition, during the investigation, the legality of importing server equipment into the country will be established.
Recall that in May, the Kyrgyz authorities seized over 2,000 devices for mining in Bishkek and Chui Oblast. In June 2020, the local parliament approved a 15% tax for miners.
