Google recently issued a policy update, allowing the advertising of blockchain-based gaming incorporating non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
However, this update carries specific restrictions, set to take effect on September 15, 2023.
Advertisers will be allowed to promote NFT games, provided they do not involve any form of gambling-related content.
More specifically, it will allow the promotion of NFT games enabling players to purchase in-game items, such as virtual clothing for their characters, which enhance the gaming experience or assist users in progressing.
On the contrary, Google will prohibit the advertisement of NFT games that enable users to wager or stake NFTs for a chance to win real-world rewards and the promotion of social casino games offering NFT rewards or real-money gambling platforms.
This policy update follows Google’s previous move in July, where it allowed developers to incorporate digital assets, including NFTs, into their Google Play apps.
This signifies Google’s increasing recognition of the value of Web3 technologies, as evidenced by its recent actions.
In May, Google Cloud introduced a dedicated program to support startups and projects thriving in the Web3 arena. Additionally, in October 2022, Google Cloud forged a strategic partnership with Coinbase, leveraging each other’s strengths.
