A few months ago, American video game retail company GameStop decided to venture into the NFT world. Its latest project went live on the Ethereum layer-2 chain, ImmutableX. All these are part of the company’s push into the Web3 space.
New Gaming Experience
GameStop and ImmutableX entered a partnership in February. They planned to build an NFT marketplace while offering NFT developers and content creators a grant of $100 million. The grant went live before they came up with the marketplace beta version in July.
Now that the full launch has been announced, web3 games will now be allowed on ImmutableX. GameStop will allow users to access such games as Gods Unchained and Illuvium.
GameStop has invested in Web3-focused products since last year. It also had the beta version of a crypto wallet launched in May. The wallet can be integrated with the new marketplace.
Hong Kong’s NFT Test
The government of Hong Kong has published a policy statement that clarifies its position on virtual assets. It also gave details of some pilot projects, which include NFTs.
The government’s NFT project is a proof-of-concept that is aimed at promoting NFT usage. It also carries the country’s Financial Services and Treasury Bureau, and InvestHK along. They are said to issue NFTs during HK Fintech Week.
It is said that the NFTs will be the attendees’ proof that they attended the event. It will also carry a statement that states that it is a memento and digital badge. Blockchain tech will, thus, be a means of celebrating their attendance.
The event NFTs can equally be used to create Augmented Reality avatars for the Metaverse experience. And while at this year’s event, the NFT holders will get a discount to attend next year’s event.
