American convenience store chain 7-Eleven has made an announcement regarding the launch of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as part of its 96th-anniversary celebration and Slurpee Day.
The company is inviting users to take part in its “‘Find Your Slurpee Vibe” digital collectible initiative by scanning a QR code. Upon doing so, they will be redirected to a virtual experience where they can select their preferred flavors – cherry, blue raspberry citrus, or pina colada – and fill their virtual glass.
At the end of the experience, users will be treated to a sensation based on their chosen flavors. Afterward, they can then claim their digital collectible and mint their creation on the Polygon blockchain, adding it to their digital wallet.
Moreover, people who claim the digital collectible will receive seven additional entries to potentially win bling inspired by Slurpee drinks, designed by renowned jewelry maker King Ice.
This virtual experience and the opportunity to claim the collectible will be available until July 18, 2023.
7-Eleven is not the first convenience store chain to embrace Web3 technology. Publix, in August 2022, filed trademark applications to enter the metaverse and adopt NFTs.
Similarly, Walmart, in March 2023, submitted a trademark application for its subsidiary Sam’s Club to delve into the realms of NFTs, the metaverse, cryptocurrency, and blockchain. In September 2022, Walmart also revealed the launch of two new metaverse experiences on Roblox, namely Walmart Universe of Play and Walmart Land.
