World’s Biggest Demo Drop (WBDD), one of the most renowned DJ talent contests, has made its way into the metaverse.
WBDD is a contest launched by Spinnin’ Records in which DJs from across the world can submit their own recordings for a chance to earn an official release with the organizer or Musical Freedom.
This year, the contest will hit differently: winning DJs will have the opportunity to feature their music on a metaverse party hosted by The Sandbox and arranged in partnership with Warner Music Group (WMG).
The party, which will last until February 8, 2023, will feature each DJ as an avatar with whom visitors would be able to engage.
Furthermore, this year’s winners’ tracks will not only be released on Spinnin’ Records, but will also become NFTs with LGND Music — a music-centered NFT platform created through a collaboration between WMG, LGND, and Polygon.
Music — just like art — is becoming increasingly integrated into Web3, and WMG appears to be leading the way in that regard. Warner Music Group collaborated with POAP last April to release NFTs to commemorate special moments, and in September it announced a collaboration with leading NFT marketplace OpenSea to promote its Web3 initiatives.
WMG has recently invested in metaverse fashion retail startup DRESSX, allowing chosen WMG artists to use the platform to develop their own 3D digital fashion collections.
