Ulta Beauty, the American chain of beauty stores headquartered in Bolingbrook, Illinois, has filed a trademark application to venture into the metaverse and non-fungible token (NFT) space.
According to the trademark application, submitted to the USPTO on October 21, the company plans to offer:
- Cosmetics and makeup preparations to be sold by and/or for virtual avatars in the digital world;
- Retail store services and online store services in relation to virtual goods;
- Salon services to be rendered in or via digital or virtual world;
- Makeup application services to be rendered in or via a digital or virtual world.
The news was tweeted by metaverse trademark Michael Kondoudis.
The cosmetic sector has been quite active in terms of Web3 applications and efforts. L’Oréal recently teamed with Meta to create a startup accelerator program to foster breakthrough ideas in the metaverse.
Clinique launched its first makeup NFT campaign in June to promote a more inclusive metaverse. A month earlier, NYX Professional Makeup debuted its Pride 2022 campaign, “Paint Your Own Story,” and entered the metaverse with a first-of-its-kind virtual meta-pride parade.
