Turkey has officially entered the metaverse, thereby joining the digital revolution.
The announcement was made by Fahrettin Altun, the head of media and communications in the Turkish presidency, during a conference themed “Having a Say in the Digital Universe.” Altun stated that the Directorate of Communications now has a metaverse office.
The virtual office, dubbed “Meta Office,” was launched as part of the Directorate’s Web3 Transformation and Metaverse Strategy. It can be accessed worldwide through mobile devices, allowing anyone to enter after creating an avatar.
Looking ahead, the Meta Office will also location-based augmented reality technology to organize both physical and digital events, enabling users to participate and interact with other avatars.
The virtual office will also function as a host for the services and activities offered by the Directorate in the physical world.
Hosted on GoArt Metaverse, an AR-powered B2B2C metaverse platform and mobile app that offers immersive virtual experiences, the Meta Office represents a significant milestone for the Directorate of Communications as the first public institution in the metaverse to lead in these innovative technologies. However, Turkey is not the first country in the Middle East to embrace Web3.
Indeed, the United Arab Emirates has also made its presence known in the digital space. Among the numerous initiatives launched in the country, the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) introduced the “DIFC Metaverse Platform” in January to support Web3 initiatives. In 2022, the Dubai Airport Freezone (DAFZ) made its metaverse debut with METADAFZ, and the Dubai Police Force has been using blockchain technology to issue lost passport certificates within a 24-hour timeframe.
