Sony Electronics has announced a partnership with Theta Labs, a decentralized video streaming network, to produce 3D non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Such NFTs will be unique in that they will be compatible with and visible in mixed reality through Sony’s Spatial Reality Display, a display that allows users to experience things in 3D without the need for traditional 3D devices.
The Spatial Reality Display follows the viewer’s eye movement and modifies the display accordingly, providing a full 3D viewing experience.
Mitch Liu, co-founder and CEO of Theta Labs, believes that NFTs and metaverse now have a “huge potential” for 3D visualization.
Liu also mentioned that the NFT business currently consists of 2D graphics and videos.
Theta Labs’ CEO, on the other hand, believes that the “metaverse is already 3D.” This indicates that users must be able to “visualize and showcase their NFTs in a way that has a physical presence.”
Sony and Theta will release an NFT called The Tiki Guy which is a 3D Tiki Mask. There will only be ten of these NFTs created. While the NFT drop is designed for 3D viewing, 2D versions will be available as well.
