Tamagotchi, the popular virtual pet game that captured the hearts of many in the 90s, is making a comeback with a new device that connects to the metaverse.
The latest device, called Tamagotchi Uni — short for “unique,” “united,” and “universal” — is designed to connect with Tamaverse, a virtual world created specifically for Tamagotchi fans.
With Tamagotchi Uni, users can create and personalize their own avatars directly on the device and then enter the virtual space to interact with other players. They can take part in various games and explore different locations within Tamaverse — such as Tama Arena, Tama Parties, Tama Fashion, and Tama Travel.
Starting today, Tamagotchi Uni is available for pre-order on Amazon, and it will be officially released for public sale on July 15, 2023.
Many companies are seizing the opportunity to revive classic games and franchises by embracing the possibilities offered by Web3. Recently, Mediawan Kids & Family partnered with The Sandbox to bring the beloved story of “The Little Prince” into the metaverse.
In a similar vein, Reddit and Ubisoft collaborated to introduce the popular Rabbids franchise into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Furthermore, in March, the digital collectible platform VeVe teamed up with Sesame Workshop to launch an NFT collection featuring iconic characters from Sesame Street, including the lovable blue Muppet character.
