The Seoul Digital Foundation, which is a digital arm of the Seoul city government, is expanding and enhancing its Seoul Metaverse platform with the addition of “The Metaverse Seoul Pet”, a virtual pet adoption service area.
This new addition will be hosted in the Worldy Citizen Land and will enable users to adopt virtual pets from a selection of ten kinds, including dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and more. Each user will only be able to adopt one pet, which cannot be returned.
Pet owners will then have the ability to train their virtual pets, earn points, level up, and purchase various accessories, such as headbands, shoes, and wings.
The Seoul Metaverse platform was launched in January to provide citizens with various recreational activities and administrative services in five areas — economy, education, tax, administration, and communication.
The launch is part of The SMG’s Metaverse Seoul Master Plan (2022-2026) that aims to implement new technology and respond to the changing administrative environment, such as post-pandemic society.
Other plans that are included in the roadmap and are expected to be developed between 2023 and 2024 include virtual festivals and exhibitions, smart work systems, and learning support through citizen universities.
