Samsung has integrated blockchain game developer Illuvium’s non-fungible tokens (NFTs) into its latest smart TVs.
This integration allows users to view in-game assets such as weapons, Illuvials, and suits from Illuvium’s three interconnected games — Overworld, Arena, and Zero — directly on their Samsung TVs.
Illuvium shared the news on X (Twitter), stating, “With Samsung’s reach, Illuvium will be brought to millions of new players worldwide, blending gaming and digital art in a way that’s never been done before.”
Samsung and Illuvium’s collaboration will also be showcased at Gamescom, a major video game trade fair that will take place later this month in Cologne, Germany. Attendees will have the chance to explore Illuvium’s games and acquire one of ten exclusive GEN3RATOR NFTs, which are part of Samsung’s latest digital innovation efforts.
The collaboration with Illuvium is part of Samsung’s broader push into the Web3 space, which it has been exploring since early 2022. The company’s venture into this area began with the launch of an NFT platform for its smart TVs, which enables users to browse, buy, and trade NFTs.
Since then, Samsung has continued to expand its presence in the metaverse and Web3 technologies.
In January 2022, the company launched a virtual store called “837X” on Decentraland, marking its entry into the metaverse. Later that year, in July, Samsung introduced “Space Tycoon,” a virtual environment where users could create, play, and share games and experiences using Samsung products.
Samsung has recently increased its focus on the Web3 gaming sector. Beyond its work with Illuvium, the company also partnered with the NFT game Wilder World in April, bringing the game’s immersive experience to its Smart TVs and other devices.
