Playboy, a men’s lifestyle and entertainment magazine in print and online, has filed trademark applications for “PLAYMATE” and “CENTERFOLD”, indicating its intention to enter the metaverse.
According to the trademark applications, the company plans to provide non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and virtual blockchain-based tokens.
Metaverse trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis announced the news earlier today via Twitter.

“Clearly, Playboy sees the potential of the Metaverse and is preparing its trademarks and brand for the virtual economy that will dominate it,” Mr. Kondoudis opined. “We expect the number of trademark filings for NFTs and virtual products and services from the publishing sector to increase over the next twelve months as publishers come to appreciate the need for brand protection in the Metaverse.”
