Susan Wojcicki, YouTube’s CEO for over 25 years, has decided to step down.
In a recent announcement, Wojcicki retraced her career, actions, and milestones achieved throughout their time at the company, while also expressing confidence and excitement about who will take her place: Neal Mohan.
Since becoming YouTube’s Chief Product Officer in 2015, Mohan has played key roles in the development of several of the streaming platform’s most important products — including YouTube TV, YouTube Music and Premium, and Shorts.
“Neal will be a terrific leader for YouTube,” wrote Wojcicki.
This role change is also good news for Web3 enthusiasts, as Mohan has previously indicated an interest in NFTs and Web3 in general.
Wojcicki wrote a letter last year in January announcing the company’s next investment plans, which included crypto and NFTs.
A month later, in an article titled “A Look at 2022: Community, Collaboration, and Commerce,” Mohan cited Web3 and NFTs as part of the plans for 2022.
“We believe new technologies like blockchain and NFTs can allow creators to build deeper relationships with their fans,” the letter read. “There’s a lot to consider in making sure we approach these new technologies responsibly, but we think there’s incredible potential as well.”
Although YouTube has not yet released any specific Web3-related features, Mohan’s appointment as CEO may soon accelerate and shake things up.
