Museum of Science in Boston, Massachusetts, has announced its foray into the metaverse with its “Mission: Mars” experience.
The virtual experience, developed in partnership with Filament Games and housed in the Roblox metaverse, is an educational experience through which the museum wants to connect millions of people while teaching them about Mars planet.
The adventure will include missions and tasks that gamers must complete in order to survive on Mars.
Discovering prior signs of water, collecting samples of water ice, and rescuing other explorers from imminent doom are some of the challenges.
“Mission: Mars” will also feature a comprehensive set of educational resources and supplemental support for teachers to use in the classroom for science and engineering education.
“The Museum’s entry into the metaverse is part of our aspiration to reach 100 million people in museums, classrooms, and online by 2030, breaking down barriers to engagement and creating greater equity in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education,” commented Tim Ritchie, Museum of Science President.
Many organizations are counting on the metaverse as a solution to enhance the eLearning industry. A strategy that appears to have legs, since the global metaverse market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 39.8% between 2022 and 2030.
